Years later I realized that the obsession and taste for including horses in my work was not alien and is part of the roots of this horse-loving town. The cultural shock of moving to Colombia in 1966 deepened my need to paint and draw, this led me to study in several art institutes in the city of Pereira.

"As I have observed patients, as well as thousands of people in moments of health, suffering, recovery or death, I have been struck by how much the gesture of the body can tell us about the human experience. This work by Samuel Ruiz reveals that drama of the person in ways that highlight the mystery and vulnerability of being human."
